My BRCA Journey

Once the Xeroform did it’s magic, Megan filled my left Foob to the size of my right one. It was nice to not be lopsided anymore! We set ourselves up to have fills every Monday and I can honestly say I looked so forward to Mondays every week.

Do they hurt? How does it feel? Expander capacity?

• I can tell you I didn’t feel extreme pain at all with the fills – it was more of an uncomfortable stretching and tightening
• She would mark my port with a market (after disinfecting) and insert a needle into the port then push in the saline – pull out the 100ccs and push it back in then put a bandaid on it and off I went
• The first 3 days or so felt weird. I tried to take every precaution and continued sleeping on my back, in a bra the entire time I had my fills done. After the drains were removed I could have slept on my back, but didn’t
• My expanders were designed to hold 650ccs. That sounds like a LOT but keep in mind I had my breast tissue scooped out of me so on a normal person with breast tissue that would be a lot, but for me it looks similar to my previous size.
  • My expanders were filled an extra 50ccs. I am walking around at 700ccs

Every Monday Megan cracked jokes with me, she celebrated her birthday, and she sent me on my way with a smile on my face. She deserves all of the praise in the world.

My last fill was on July 28th – my ten year anniversary at my work and I was cleared to return that week.
