My BRCA Journey

I went back and forth with this expander for month. I had another Barbie and Ken moment and as you can imagine it caused a lot of frustration. I was lucky enough that this happened on weekends so I didn’t have to be over thinking it at work. I also had rotations and learned that once the magnet rotated my chances of it flipping were very high. 

Grand total of 5 Magnetic Port Rotations and 2 Barbie and Ken moments have happened until February 2026.

Today is February 3rd and you’ve guessed it – I have a rotated expander again.

I have luckily been offered some surgery dates. Last week Jesus called asking if I wanted to take any of the cancellations for my Expander to Implant swap. Unfortunately, the dates available wouldn’t work today. 

This morning my caller ID showed Kaiser and I assumed it was an appointment for my kiddo. Instead it was Bianca offering me March 6th for my surgery! I couldn’t believe it, I am so happy I finally have a surgery date. I have been so stressed that this wouldn’t happen until May or June (which was the estimate by another scheduler). Once I was given that date it felt as if a huge weight vanished.

Now I await my surgery kit, anxiously count down days until my pre-opp, and cannot wait to walk into the surgery center. 

Sidenote: Extremely happy that Rich will be assisting on my surgery and Megan will be my PA for my post-opp. Without those two guiding me I would have gone insane.
